Beemer and Dodson Qualify For Finals At the Air Force Invite

Beemer and Dreher Qualify For Junior Nationals

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ? University of Colorado freshmen Brianne Beemer and Katie Dreher both qualified for USA Junior Nationals in their first collegiate heptathlon on Friday at the Northridge Spring Break Combined Events Meet.

 

            Beemer recorded 4,400 points and took second place, while Dreher was third with 4,328 points. Senior Troi Smith finished sixth overall with 4,041 points.

 

            Beemer, whose best event in the indoor pentathlon was the 800-meter run, continued to excel in that event as she took first with a time of 2 minutes, 15.60 seconds. She also took second in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 3 inches and was only second to her coach, Lindsey Malone, who recorded a jump 5-7.75 for first place.

 

            Dreher's best event of the day was the javelin. She took second overall with a toss of 102-11. Dreher placed third in the 800 by clocking 2:22.07.

 

            Smith's best event was the shot put. She recorded a throw of 36-04.25 to lead the field and take first.

 

            On the men's side, Alex Von Hagen placed second in the decathlon after recording a personal best 6,584 points. He was the runner-up in the last three events: the pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meter run. Von Hagen earned PR's in all three events; 13-07.25 in the pole vault, 161-04 in the javelin and 4:38.87 in the 1,500-meter run.

 

            Eddie Taylor was fifth overall in the decathlon with 5,768 points. He won the 1,500 in a mark of 4:38.53, just edging Von Hagen at the line in .34 seconds. Taylor also took fifth in the pole vault (12-11.50).

 

            In other Buff news, volunteer assistant coach Emily Pearson recorded the 'A' standard in the meet with 5,508 points in the heptathlon. She also recorded the 'B' standard in the javelin after recording a toss of 154-07. This is the best start Pearson has ever had to start an outdoor season.

 

           Some of the Buffs will be in action on Saturday, March 28 at the Rob Upton Invitational in Fort Collins, while some members of the distance squad will compete at the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28.
