Golfers Eighth at MountainView Collegiate

March 28, 2009 | Women's Golf

TUCSON ? The University of Colorado women's golf team stand in a tie for eighth place after the first two rounds of the 11th annual MountainView Collegiate.

“Overall the team played very mediocre today but we are determined to focus better tomorrow and move up in the standings,” said head coach Anne Kelly.  “Hopefully the Arizona sun will heat up our putters and we will finally make some putts this spring.”

San Jose State posted the only sub-par team rounds of the day for a 571 (-5) total and closed the day in first.  UNLV (578), Louisville (587), Colorado State (591), and Nebraska (592) round out the top-five.  Erica Moston (San Jose State), Cindy LaCrosse (Louisville), and Cristina Corpus (San Jose State) are all tied for first place individually with a two-round score of 140 (-4).

Buffalo junior Dominique Pytlewski, who opened with a two-over 74 in the morning, improved three strokes in the second round and carded a one-under 71 in the afternoon to lead the Buffs.  Her 145 total has her tied for 11th individually.

“I had a rough start and for some reason I wasn't playing like myself,” said Pytlewski.
“I was playing tentative.  But coach reminded me that the best round she ever saw me play was after a bad start, so I pulled myself together.  I recomposed and I started making some putts.  I felt loose and started swinging a lot better and I started getting more aggressive and ?throwing darts at the pins.'”

“I'm proud of the way Domi brought her day back after a very bad start,” said Kelly.  “She pulled her game together and was able to shoot two-over in the first round and then continued her good play and shot under par in the last round, once again showing how tough of a competitor and team player she is.”

Fellow junior Julie Kim followed Pytlewski with a pair of 75's in both rounds and she is currently tied for 34th in the individual standings.  Freshman Emily Talley, after playing her first round to par, lost some of her momentum in the afternoon and finished with a round two score of 79.  Her 36-hole total of 151 puts her in a tie for 38th.

Sophomore Stephanie Simich (76-76?152) and junior Christine Kim (80-89?169) rounded out the scoring for the Buffaloes.  Lone senior on this year's roster, Cierra Ko played as an individual for the Buffs and she recorded a two-round total of 164.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled to get underway with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
