Kyle and Wacker Advance To Regionals

WALNUT, Calif. ? University of Colorado junior Jordan Kyle and freshman Andy Wacker punched their tickets to the NCAA Midwest Regional by earning qualifying marks in the 5,000-meter run at the 51st Annual Mt. SAC Relays late Friday night.
Kyle took ninth overall with a personal record of 13 minutes, 59.75 seconds. He finished just under five seconds after Butler's Joe Macdonald crossed the finish in 13:54.73. Kyle's previous PR was 14:03.38, which he set in 2007 while at Indiana University.
Wacker was just a little off Kyle's pace and finished 17th overall in 14:06.39, which was a PR by over 23 seconds. This was his first collegiate 5k race.
Assistant coach Casey Malone competed in the discus throw on Saturday in the invitational section. His best throw of the day was 196 feet, 5 inches which he recorded in his fifth attempt. Malone started off with a throw of 188-9 on his first toss. His final throw was 195-11.
Mt. SAC Relays was a successful meet for the Buffs as Emma Coburn and Emily Hanenburg improved on their regional times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Chase Dukes (hammer) and Brandin Williams (javelin) had regional marks in their respective throwing events. The Midwest Region Championship is May 29-30 in Norman, Okla.
