Hedelund Jensen Advances to Sunday AFA Final

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Junior Michala Hedelund Jensen led a University of Colorado women's tennis charge Saturday in day two of the 2010 USAFA Invitational leading the Buffaloes to a perfect 7-0 with four singles and three doubles victories.
The three-day tournament hosted by the United States Air Force Academy is being played at the Academy's outdoor tennis facility. Joining the Buffaloes and the host Falcons are Arizona, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma State, Oregon, UNC-Greensboro, and Wyoming.
Hedelund Jensen is the only CU player still playing in any of the main draws, defeated Marie Chartier of Iowa State, 6-1, 6-0 to advance to Sunday's Delta singles final. Hedelund Jensen won her third straight match - all in straight sets. She will play Oregon's Patricia Skowronski in Sunday's final.
In the consolation singles draw, freshman Kristina Schleich defeated Arizona's Sarah Landsman, 6-2, 6-4 in the Alpha bracket; junior Madie Kern won her first fall match of 2010, edging Alexis Filliol of Northern Colorado, 7-5, 7-5 in the Eco bracket; and freshman Carla Manzi Tenorio defeated Adriana Nieto (Northern Colorado), 6-2, 6-4 in the Charlie bracket.
In the morning doubles matches, the Buffaloes made it a three-for-three effort as Manzi Tenorio and sophomore Erin Sanders defeated Anya Villanueva and Nikolina Grbac (New Mexico), 8-3 in the Doubles I bracket.
In the Doubles II consolation bracket Hedelund Jensen and Schleich edged Tori Arneson and Lauren Pick of Colorado State, 8-4; and in the Doubles IV, Kern teamed up with CSU's Kaitlin Wooldridge for an 8-5 winner over Sami Lifpitz and Taylor Schumacher (Northern Colorado), 8-5.
The final day of the Air Force Invitational will begin on Sunday at 8 a.m. and admission is free to all fans. Results and updated brackets will be available each day on the women's tennis page at www.goairforcefalcons.com.
