Colorado, coming off two straight 7-0 match victories improved to 6-3 on the season. CU now leads the all-time series their in-state rival, 28-6.
The Buffaloes started the match strong taking both matches to win the doubles point. Senior teammates Melisa Esposito and Camila Belassi, the No. 51st ranked doubles team in the nation, won in convincing fashion, 8-4. With the doubles victory, Esposito moves to fourth all-time in CU history for doubles wins, reaching 70 victories.
Senior Monica Milewski and sophomore teammate Ania Anuszkiewicz took their match to the end, winning 8-7, capturing the doubles point for the Buffs. The third doubles match was ruled as a default since Colorado had already secured the doubles point.
Ahead 1-0 heading into singles play, Esposito, Milewski and Belassi looked to clinch the match for the Buffaloes. Belassi won the first singles point, defeating her opponent in solid fashion, 6-3, 6-0 extending her winning streak to six matches. Milewski, ranked No. 101 nationally played No. 81 Ute Schnoy and won the first set 6-4. In the second set she went up 5-2, however would subsequently fall 7-5. Milewski finished the third set playing her best tennis winning 6-1, giving CU a 3-0 overall match advantage.
Junior Abbie Probert solidified the Colorado victory, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
Esposito finished quickly after Probert, playing the longest match of the day and coming out victorious in three sets, finishing 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. Freshman Erin Sanders won the final match of the day for the sixth point.
With the singles victory, both Probert and Jensen earned their 10th singles victory of the season. They join three other Buffaloes (Esposito, Milewski, Belassi) in double-digit singles wins this season.
"I am very happy with the way we have played lately," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "We have come out focused on keeping things simple and just play hard, and lately the simplicity has paid off for us."
The Buffaloes will continue their non-conference schedule on March 6, at the Millennium Harvest House indoor courts when they will face the University of Northern Colorado, 10 a.m.
