April 08, 2011 | Tennis
K-State defeated CU for the first time since the 2006 season breaking a six-match losing streak for only their 11th win over CU in 35 matches since the series began in 1981.
The Wildcats (13-4, 4-3 Big 12) have won three of their last four, while the Buffaloes (3-13, 0-6) suffered their 10th straight loss, the longest in school history spanning 34 years of the program.
"Kansas State is a very good team this year with great results," said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. "The girls came out and maintained a positive outlook and attitude throughout the entire match."
The home team took the top two doubles matches for a 1-0 lead, then added straight set winners five of the next six singles positions. Freshman Winde Janssens opened her match winning the first set against Nina Sertic, 6-2, however, dropped the second, 6-2. Janssens subsequently fell in the deciding set, a 12-10 loss in a pro-set.
CU continues the two-match road trip through Kansas taking on the Jayhawks on Sunday, April 10 at 11 a.m. (MDT). The Buffaloes return to Boulder for a three-match homestand with No. 39 Texas Tech (April 15), No. 9 Baylor (April 17) and their final match against No. 38 Nebraska (April 20).
