September 18, 2011 | Tennis

LAWRENCE, Kan. - In a preview of Pac-12 opponents next spring, Washington State defeated the University of Colorado women's tennis team in four singles matches, including three in the finals on day three of the Kansas Invitational, Sunday afternoon.

The three-day invitational featured the Buffaloes and the host Jayhawks, along with Arkansas State, Kentucky, Missouri-Kansas City, St. Louis, South Dakota, Washington State, and Division II Nova Southeastern (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.).

"This weekend was a good first outing for us and to have the opportunity to see everyone compete," said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. "Everyone is happy with where we are but definitely not content or satisfied. We will continue to work hard on and off the court and look forward to competing in our home tournament next weekend."

CU rolled into the finals in three of the top singles brackets winning a pair of matches en route to the finals.

In the Singles A bracket, senior Elisabeth Fournier defeated sophomore Kristina Schleich, 6-1, 6-3; in Singles B, junior Liudmila Vasilieva edged sophomore Winde Janssens, 7-6(7), 6-1; and in Bracket C, junior Andjela Kankaras defeated sophomore Carla Manzi Tenorio, 7-5, 6-1.

In the consolation D bracket, junior Ksenia Googe defeated redshirt-sophomore Erin Sanders, 6-3, 6-0.
