LAS VEGAS – A total of six University of Colorado tennis players will head to Las Vegas this week for the United States Tennis Association and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships, hosted here Wednesday through Sunday by UNLV.

Competing for the Buffs will be senior Alex Aiello, junior Nuria Ormeno Ruiz, sophomores Tina Bokhua, Jeannez Daniel and Kyra Wojcik and freshman Annabelle Andrinopoulos

“We have had good outings and performances at the two competitions we have had so far this semester,” CU coach Nicole Kenneally said. “I am excited to have six players competing in regionals.  There are a lot of solid teams in our region, but we are also taking great talent to this event.”

The other teams in the Mountain Region are Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Colorado State, Denver, Idaho,  Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, Weber State and Wyoming.  Three additional teams, Idaho State, Montana State and Southern Utah, from the region are not competing.  All schools have between four and eight players competing with two to four doubles teams.

“If we take care of what we can control, of the details inside and outside the match, we can advance,” Kenneally said. “The tournament is a battle of the fittest and we have put in the work on the court and in the weight room so we look to see where that takes us.  I'm excited for the event and to see us compete again.”

The five-day event includes a singles field of 128 players and doubles of 64.  Wednesday will include the first round of both main draw singles and doubles.  On Thursday, there is one more round of doubles and two of singles, reducing each field to 16 apiece.

Back draw matches start on Friday along with two main draw doubles and one main draw singles round.    On Saturday, the semifinal round of doubles and quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of singles will take place followed by the final rounds on Sunday.
