November 03, 2015 | Cross Country
BOULDER— University of Colorado head cross country coach Mark Wetmore has been named the Pac-12 Cross Country Coach of the Century, as revealed by Pac-12 Networks.
In just five seasons as members of the league, Wetmore has guided the men's and women's teams to seven conference championships. The men have won all five titles, while the women have won twice (2011 and 2015). Just five years into the league, the Buffs already have the fourth-most Pac-12 men's cross country championships of any school in the league and the streak of five straight men's titles is now the second longest streak in Pac-12 history.
In his 21st season as head coach, he has guided the Buffs to a combined total of 30 conference titles. Under Wetmore, the Buffs claimed 30 of a possible 40 conference championships, 23 of a possible 30 in the Big 12 and seven out of a possible 10 in the Pac-12.
On a national level, Wetmore has guided the men's team to five NCAA Championships (2001, 2004, 2006, 2013 and 2014) and two NCAA women's cross country titles (2000, 2004).
He is the only Division I cross country coach to win all four NCAA titles – men's and women's team and men's and women's individual – at the same school. Wetmore has been named the NCAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year twice ('00 and '04) and the NCAA Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year three times ('06, '13 and '14). He is a 26-time conference coach of the year and in 2014, USA Track and Field named him the USA Co-Coach of the Year.
In honor of 100 years of the Pac-12 Conference, Pac-12 Networks is announcing All-Century teams for each sport sponsored by the league.
