BOULDER – University of Colorado women's tennis head coach Nicole Kenneally has announced that Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Brigitte Beck have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis with the Buffaloes in 2015-16.
Both CU incoming freshmen are from Australia.
Andrinopoulos is from Melbourne, a 5'11” right-hander, was ranked No. 1 in her junior age group with her highest Australian ranking at No. 50. A scholarship holder at Tennis Australia National Academy for numerous years, Andrinopoulos was the 2015 Kooyong Club champion and 2015 Platinum AMT finalist, with a runner up tally at the 2015 Victorian Premier League Runners Up representing Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.
With Kooyong, Andrinopoulos was the 2014 Victorian Premier League Winner with a pair of runner up finishes at the 2014 Tennis Victoria Pennant and 2013 ATL Victorian Conference Finalist. She has also represented Australia on overseas tours from 2010-13.
“We are excited to have Annabelle joining us,” Kenneally said. “Annabelle has a wealth of tennis experience with success in Australia, as well as internationally. This will only provide more experience to our line-up. Annabelle also finished high school in November of 2014 and has had the opportunity to use the last six months to train and work on her game.”
At CU, Andrinopoulos' intended college major is marketing with an interest in psychology.
Beck, also from Melbourne, is a 5'5 ½”right-hander, accumulated an impressive four-year singles record of 56-4 at the Associated Public School (APS). She was a member of four Wesley College championship teams from 2011-14, and part of a Lions team that achieved a 60-0 record during team play over her four years.
Beck played on two Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club – Victorian Grade 1 Pennant League championship teams (2012 and 2013), in addition on a pair of Australian Teams that toured and played in Europe.
“Brigitte is going to be a great Buff,” Kenneally said. “We are excited for her arrival in August. Brigitte chose to take the break between finishing high school at the end of last year and starting in August. This has allowed her that time to put all of her energy and focus on her tennis.”
Beck's course of study is biochemistry with an interest in psychology.
“From afar, I can tell the type of young lady we will have in our program over the course of the next four years with her character, commitment and passion for her sport and her education,” Kenneally added. "Her values are right in line with where we are as a program and we can't wait to start working with Brigitte.”
Entering the 2015 fall season, the Buffaloes' roster will have one senior, two juniors and two freshmen, along with three sophomores.
“Both Annabelle and Brigitte come with high recommendations from all of their coaches and people in the tennis community,” Kenneally added. “They are young leaders with a very clear view of their goals and I am excited for them to join the talented returners from this year's squad. As we look forward we have an exciting group representing the Buffs.”
