Steur and Tiefel Honored At Tennis Banquet

BOULDER – Seniors Julyette Steur and Ashley Tiefel were honored Sunday at the Byron R. White Club Level as the University of Colorado women's tennis team celebrated the 2014-15 season.
Steur was named the team's Most Valuable Player, as well as the Sports Performer of the Year. The senior from Apeldoorn, The Netherlands was also named Co-Most Improved along with Tiefel.
The team's Clutch Player was awarded to sophomore Nuria Ormeño Ruiz for the second straight year. The team's Academic M.V.P. was also awarded to Steur for the third straight year.
Some of the team highlights that the Buffaloes accomplished this past spring was being nationally ranked for eight consecutive weeks (Feb. 17–Apr. 13), the 11 team wins matched the 2010 spring season, and this year's team posted their first winning season since 2009.
The Buffs also finished with a 7-1 record in the Mountain Region.
The team is coming off its most-successful Pac-12 Tournament showing in the four-year history of the conference as the doubles team of Ormeño Ruiz and junior Alex Aiello became the first CU pair to reach the conference main draw semifinals.
CU also placed the freshmen tandem of Tina Bokhua and Kyra Wojcik, playing together for the first time this post-season, to the quarterfinals. It was a school-first with a pair of doubles teams in a main draw quarterfinal round.
In singles, Aiello became the first CU singles player to reach the quarterfinal round in a Pac-12 Conference main draw bracket. She also became the first player in school history in the four years of the Pac-12 to win a pair of singles matches in the same day.
Last October, Steur and freshman Kyra Wojcik won the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional, becoming the first CU doubles team to win a regional title in school history.
