Sutherland Advances To 1500 Finals

The Dallas, Texas native recorded a runner-up finish to take one of the five automatic qualifying positions from the first heat, finishing second to the Pac-12 and reigning NCAA Champion Shelby Houlihan, who finished in 4:16.87.
Sutherland started the race in the back of the pack, but moved up to the middle by the halfway point. Entering the bell lap, she had pulled herself up to second and stayed there.
Redshirt freshman Erin Clark was also in action in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She finished eighth in the first heat, 15th overall, with a time of 10:15.83 to wrap up a stellar freshman campaign with a second team All-America award. Clark was named the Pac-12's Female Freshman of the Year after winning the steeplechase and taking second in the 5,000 last May.
Junior Abrianna Torres finished her season with a 20th place finish in the heptathlon. She recorded 5,483 points in her first ever appearance at the national meet.
Torres started the day in the long jump, recording a 19-2 mark on her first jump. In the following event, the javelin, she threw the implement 123-8 on her second attempt. Torres finished the event running the 800 in 2:26.18.
Nationals continue on Friday with junior Morgan Pearson competing in the 5k at 7:30 p.m. It will be televised live on ESPN.
