Tennis Excited To Begin Fall Season

September 23, 2015 | Tennis

BOULDER – As the University of Colorado women's tennis team gears up for the first tournament of the fall, the team is looking to capitalize on a productive offseason. The Buffs are hosting Colorado State, Georgetown and New Mexico in the four-day Colorado Invitational beginning Thursday at the South Campus Tennis Complex.

Head coach Nicole Kenneally believes this year's squad is deeper than previous teams and is looking forward to the competitive mindset players will bring into each match.

“The format of this tournament will allow us to really see the competitors of this team and who likes to be in the hot-seat a little bit,” explained Kenneally. “I want to see high-quality tennis and competitiveness whether it's after a great win or a tough loss, the idea of just coming back.”

Colorado welcomes three newcomers to the team this year, including a pair of freshmen from Australia in Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Brigitte Beck. Jeannez Daniel joins the team as a transfer from Texas-El Paso and is currently a sophomore.

Beck will not be able to make her debut this weekend, however, as she is recovering from a wrist surgery she had this offseason.

Kenneally is not only excited to see what her newcomers and the rest of the team bring to the table, but believes fans will be in for a treat as well.

“I think the fans are going to see a lot of great tennis,” Kenneally said. “We have some good teams here, and I think every match is going to be a competitive match.”

Play will begin on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and then resumes at 8:30 a.m. to start Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be four different single draws during the tournament as well as two rounds of doubles play beginning on Thursday.
