Play Begins At Colorado Invitational

BOULDER- The University of Colorado women's tennis team welcomed three schools to the South Campus Tennis Complex on Thursday for the start of the Colorado Invitational and the Buffs first play of the fall season.
The Buffs would have a rough day dropping all four doubles matches they played, giving the Buffs an 0-4 record to start the tournament.
“I think the girls hit it on the head when they said that we didn't play enough matches coming in,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “With the level of competition we're playing at, we need to be ready to play."
The day would consist of just doubles matches between the four schools. The Buffs started off round one with two matches.
Playing on the number one court, CU's duo pair of Kyra Wojcik and Jeannez Daniel took on Georgetown's Victorie Saperstein and Risa Nakagawa, losing 4-6. The girls wouldn't go down without a fight, tying the score 4-4 halfway through the match. But the Hoyas' team was too tough and they pulled away. It was Daniel's first time playing for the Buffs after transferring from the University of Texas-El Paso.
Playing on the number three court, the Buffs pair of Nuria Ormeño Ruiz and Annabelle Andrinopoulos lost to the New Mexico pair of Dominique Dulski and Sharon Coone, 4-6. The match was a tough one for the girls and they would only get the score to 3-4 halfway through the match before the Lobos girls pulled away. This was the freshman Andrinopolus's first collegiate match of her career.
The second round started with the Buffs girls trading opponents and courts.
Now on court three Wojcik/Daniel took on the Lobo team of Dulski/Coone. The Buffs couldn't stay with a very good Lobo team and would lose in straight games 0-6.
Playing on court one, the team of Ormeno/Andrinopolus took on the Hoyas' team of Saperstein/Nakagawa. Facing yet another tough doubles team the Buffs would drop the match 1-6.
The Colorado Invitational continues Friday at the South Campus Tennis Complex. The start time for Friday has been changed to 9:30 AM. Be there to cheer on the Buffs as they start singles competition.
"Tomorrow we expect a much better fight and much better play," Kenneally said. "For us it's go time now, and all the hard work we've put in off the court will have to show up on the court. I look forward to seeing how we compete tomorrow.”
