On Thursday's doubles play
"This is the first tournament for Nez and Chloe. They had ups and downs through the first few games of the pro set. They got off to a nice lead and let them back in. They both didn't really hit their game until it was 5-all and then they played three very basic, high-percentage games and they won 8-5. Lou and Nuria, it's their second match playing together. When the opportunity is there when you haven't played much together, that's good and what we're working towards is to have flexibility in the doubles as we get towards our championship season.
On Thursday's singles play
"We didn't have the day we wanted. The format we play with with no-ad scoring is one where you can get up very quickly with winning a couple of the deuce points, but at the same time you can get down quickly. It really comes down to the maturity of the player as well as the player's ability to see it for what it is. You're opponent is also dealing with it too. Today at times we let that get the better of us. We are a better team than that. In some ways today was the best learning day we've had where we can look back on it and really look at some things as far as what we need to get better at and what we need to do better. Obviously we've played our home tournament, this is our second and last event of the fall season. They always say you learn more when you lose and you don't learn as much when you win. I think we can look back on today, and we've got (some back-draw matches) tomorrow to get more matches while we're here. We talked about making sure what story we are talking about to ourselves, what story do we want to be talking about, and what are we going to do tomorrow. I think they'll take it on with gusto and tomorrow we've just got to look to grow from today. Look back, reflect, learn and move on."
On the play of Nuria in singles
"A couple of highlights, Nuria wasn't playing her best tennis and that's what it's all about. It's figuring out how to win when you're not playing your best. She didn't play her best tennis in her second match today, but she found a way. She stayed cool, she stayed calm and collected. She played the game she knows she can play. She kept coming back and she found it. A couple of the other [players] had the same experience in their matches today. Lou was in a situation where she didn't win for a lack of effort, or for a lack of belief. Her opponent just played better than her. She did lose a few of those deuce points and sometimes scores can be deceiving. Matches can sometimes be a little closer than what they look like on the scorecard. I'm happy with her progress. She has had a couple of great matches down here. For her to play someone like that, of that ability, is good for her learning curve. Tomorrow we've got [two rounds of] doubles first and then the singles. We need to come out and win the first and I then win the second. Then we will turn around and we've got Nuria in the Main Draw and everyone else will have a [Back Draw] match."
