October 04, 2016 | Cross Country
BOULDER — The Colorado cross country teams saw a little change in this week's USTFCCCA Coaches Poll as the CU women are now in sole possession of second, while the men dropped one spot to sixth.
The women's team impressed last weekend, winning the 31st Annual Rocky Mountain Shootout with several strong individual performances. With the win, the Buffs recorded two of the 12 first-place votes this week for 346.5 points and for the first time this season, earned the top ranking in the regional poll, moving up one spot from second to overtake New Mexico. Providence remained the top team in the poll this week with 357 points and the remaining 10 first-place votes.
The men's team fell one spot from fifth to sixth, but it was by the narrowest of margins (one point). The Buffs still recorded one first-place vote to pick up 297 points, just one point behind Arkansas which earned 298 points for fifth overall. Northern Arizona is still ranked first this week (352 points, seven first-place votes), while Syracuse is second (337 points, one first-place vote). BYU is third (327 points, two first-place votes) and Oregon rounds out the top four (315 points, one first-place vote). CU is ranked third in the regional poll behind NAU and BYU.
The next race for the Buffs is the NCAA Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 15 in Terre Haute, Ind.
