Women Ranked Third, Men Fifth, In USTFCCCA Poll

BOULDER — There was a slight change for the Colorado women's cross country team in the latest USTFCCCA Poll as the Buffs dropped one position from second to third overall. CU's men remained fifth for the third straight week.

Colorado has been off since Sept. 2 when both teams raced at the Colorado State Invitational. Since the Buffs were idle last weekend, Providence, which did race, was able to gain a little ground on CU's women and recorded 346 points to CU's 344 points to move to second, pushing the Buffs to third. The Friars also picked up three first-place votes, while the Buffs recorded one. New Mexico stayed at the top position of the women's poll, earning the remaining eight first-place votes and 351 points.

CU is one of five Pac-12 teams ranked this week. Oregon is fourth overall (323) while Stanford is seventh (280). Washington (239) is just outside the top 10 at 12th and Utah entered the poll this week at 26th (56).

The Buffalo men picked up 313 points in the latest poll to keep them at fifth. Syracuse was first overall again with all 12 first-place votes and 360 points. Northern Arizona moved up to second overall (335) and Oregon, the top Pac-12 team on the men's side, dropped one spot to third (334). Stanford is fourth overall with 323 points. Â

The Pac-12 is very well represented in the poll with five of nine men's teams ranked. Washington is 21st overall and Washington State is rated 27th.

In the region polls, which were released on Monday, both teams were rated second. The women were second to New Mexico, while the men were behind Northern Arizona.

The Buffs are off until October 1, when they will host the 31st Annual Rocky Mountain Shootout.
