September 27, 2016 | Cross Country
BOULDER — The Colorado cross country teams continue to be one of the best combined programs in the country with both teams ranked in the top five of the USTFCCCA Coaches Poll. The CU women are tied for second this week, while the men are tied for fifth.
The women's team has been ranked in the top three all season. They were ranked third last week after spending the first two weeks at second and moved back into the runner-up spot this week with 345 points and three first-place votes. The Buffs are tied with New Mexico, which had been the top team in the poll for the first three weeks. UNM also picked up 345 points and earned five first-place votes. Providence moved up to the top spot this week with 349 points and the remaining four first-place votes.
The men's team is tied for fifth this week with Arkansas as both teams earned 299 points, but for the first time this season, the Buffs recorded one first-place vote. CU has been ranked fifth all season. Northern Arizona dethroned Syracuse for the top position in the rankings, recording 351 points and seven first-place votes. Syracuse moved down to second (331 points, one first-place vote) and Oregon hung on to third (326 points, two first-place votes). BYU also made a move in the poll, jumping up from 12th to fourth this week with 320 points and the final first-place vote.
The Buffs have been off since Sept. 2, but that will change this weekend when they host the 31st Annual Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Buffalo Ranch on CU's South Campus. The men's race is set to start at 9 a.m., while the women will run at 9:45 a.m. More information is available at CUBuffs.com.
