Buffs Open Action at Air Force Invitational

USAF ACADEMY, COLO.- The University of Colorado Track and Field team took care of business on the first day of the Air Force Invitational here Friday advancing multiple Buffs to the semi-final events on Saturday. 

WHAT HAPPENED:
In the 60 meters the duo of Rajon O'Quinn and Duane McClurkin Jr advanced to the semi-finals as they both placed in the top-11. McClurkin Jr. clocked a time of 6.94 to finish 10th and advance. O'Quinn recorded a 7.59, only .01 seconds off her PR, to finish in third.
 
Colorado competed well in the 200 meters on Friday, as Duane McClurkin Jr. advanced to the finals in the No. 2 spot with a 21.60 behind BYU's Tatenda Tsumba. On the women's side, CU advanced three Buffs in Rajon O'Quinn, Alexandria Peters and Tashay Brown. O'Quinn finished second with an immpressive PR time of 24.69. Peters followed in third clocking a 24.82 and Brown rounds out the CU competitors in sixth with a time of 25.01.
 
Competitors with the eight fastest times advance to the finals in the 400 meters. Freshman David Merkel will represent the Buffs in the event as he placed fifth with a time of 50.07. Justin Miller just missed out on advancing as he finished in ninth place recording a 50.60 time.
 
The CU trio of Kodie Artner, Andrew Ghizzone and Aaron Carmichael advanced to the semi-finals in the 60-meter hurdles, as they placed in the top-11 of the event. Prelim heat winners and the next 13 fastest advance to the semi-final round on Saturday. Artner won his heat and is heading into the next round in the No. 2 spot with a PR time of 8.21. Ghizzone placed fifth recording an 8.48, while Carmichael slid into the 10th spot with a time of 8.73.
 
Freshman Eriana Henderson had a big day for the Buffs finishing third in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an 8.94 time. She also added a third-place finish in the long jump, with a PR of 18-9/5.71.
 
In the men's weight throw, three Buffs threw for PR marks. Grayson Webber finished in 10th place, with a 15.69/51-6 PR mark. Austin Swanson broke the 13-meter mark earning a 45-2/13.76, while Freshman Caleb Penner recorded a 40-1/12.21 spot.

The Buffs continue action at the Air Force Invitational on Saturday.
