Max Luukko earns podium finish in Saturday’s giant slalom race; CU sits in fifth place of UAA Invite at midway point

GIRDWOOD, Alaska – The University of Colorado alpine teams wrapped up four days of skiing at the Alyeska Resort on Saturday with the running of the men's and women's giant slalom races in the UAA Invitational.
 
CU had three top 10 finishes on the day, with sophomore Max Luukko reaching the podium in the men's race for his third top three finish this season.
 
The men's team, who won the two slalom races on Saturday (one in the Seawolf Invitational, one in the UAA Invitational), came in second Saturday in the giant slalom. CU finished nine points behind Utah's winning team, who scored 90 points with its Ute racers finishing in first, fourth and 12th.
 
Luukko placed third in the giant slalom, matching his best career finish in the event. Freshman David Ketterer finished in fifth and Ola Johansen 13th to give the Buffs 81 points.
 
On the women's side, Tonje Trulsrud remains consistent for the Buffs. She finished sixth Saturday with a two-run time of 1:37.47 and now has finished inside the top 10 in eight of her 10 races this year.
 
CU's women's team scored 55 points Saturday, finishing fifth out of seven teams.
 
Overall through four events at the UAA Invitational, CU sits in fifth place with 250 points. The Nordic teams will resume the meet on Feb. 11 with the running of the 5/10K classical races.
