Buffs Open 2018 Spring Season at Indiana Invitational

BOULDER - The Colorado women's tennis team opens the 2018 spring season Saturday with the Indiana Invitational at the IU Tennis Center in Bloomington, Indiana.
"We are excited to get the spring season underway and see where we are," said women's tennis head coach Nicole Kenneally.
Kenneally is in her 19th season at the helm and is currently second all-time at CU with 178 wins.
The Buffs are coming off a fall campaign that featured freshman Linda Huang's run to the finals match of the ITA Regionals in Salt Lake City, Utah, before falling to No. 2 Marianna Petrei (Idaho). During her five straight victories to reach the finals match, Huang had a marathon, two-hour, 45-minute three-set win over Nevada's Claudio Herrero in the quarterfinals and another three-set win over top-seeded Julia O'Laughlin from Denver in the semifinals.
Huang also won the Gold Draw singles championship at the CU Invitational and the San Diego State Fall Classic Red Draw championship.
Also at the ITA Regionals, junior Annabelle Andrinopoulos advanced to the round of 32 before being taken down by BYU's Anastasia Abramyan.
Colorado's top doubles team of senior Louise Ronaldson and sophomore Chloe Hule had a solid fall season as they fell in the 2017 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Doubles championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Finally, senior Jeannez Daniel had a streak of eight straight wins between the spring of her junior season into the fall of her senior season through the CU Invitational. That was the longest streak since former Buff Nuria Ormeño Ruiz won 10 straight to open the 2015-16 season on her way to the ITSA Regional Championship.
The three-day Indiana Invitational begins Saturday with doubles play, followed by singles. Other teams participating include the host Indiana, Mississippi State, Marquette, Wright State, DePaul and Abilene Christian.
"We have had a couple of really good solid days of practice and everyone is tuned in to the process," said Kenneally. "There is no substitution for competing though so getting some matches in before we start our dual season next week versus CSU is important."
