Sprouse Earns USTFCCCA Communication Honor

BOULDER – University of Colorado associate sports information director Linda Sprouse was recognized Wednesday with the 2018 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Excellence in Communications Award for Cross Country.
Sprouse, who is in her 14th year in the CU athletic department, has covered the sport all 14 years in her time in the SID office, coordinating publicity for four NCAA championship teams (the Colorado men in 2006, 2013 and 2014 and women this past fall), and for 16 conference titlists in both the Pac-12 (10) and the Big 12 (six).
"I am very humbled and honored to receive this award," Sprouse said. Â "I strive to do my job to the best of my abilities, just as I know our student-athletes are doing the same. Â "I'm certainly not in this for the recognition, I like extolling the accomplishments of our coaches and athletes."
Athletics communications representatives at schools and conferences who have committed to excellent coverage and support of collegiate track & field and cross country are eligible to be nominated for the award in recognition of their service to the sport by coaches, other athletics communications representatives, media members and the general public. Â
Among the criteria the USTFCCCA considers for the award are exhibiting consistent, innovative, high-quality coverage of the sport; demonstrating a record of improving coverage and public awareness in the area/campus, etc.; taking risks with their decisions in hopes of increasing awareness of the sport; displaying the utmost professionalism in interactions with the media, coaches and student-athletes; effectively and cleverly utilizing multimedia and social media; and bringing understanding to an individual/subject/cause through excellence in feature writing, producing or promoting.
Sprouse joined the CU athletic department in the summer of 2005 and in addition to cross country, she has covered volleyball, indoor and outdoor track, lacrosse and women's golf.
This is the fifth year the USTFCCCA has selected award winners for both cross country and track; Sprouse is the SID from the Pac-12 to be honored.
