Steinberg Announces Fall Schedule

August 20, 2018 | Tennis

BOULDER – Colorado tennis coach Danielle Steinberg has announced her team's fall schedule for the 2018-19 season. The Buffs will compete in four tournaments during the fall.

CU opens the season Sept. 28-30 at home when it hosts the Colorado Invitational at CU's South Campus Tennis Complex. The season continues Oct. 10-14 with the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Buffs will play two more tournaments following regionals, starting with the Barb Chandler Classic Oct. 26-28 at Boise State, and wrapping up the fall with the San Diego State Invitational Nov. 9-11.

Steinberg is entering her first season as head coach at CU, taking over for Nicole Kenneally, who stepped down after 19 seasons. Steinberg has a history of quickly building strong programs at her two previous stops, going 29-17 in two seasons at McNeese State, taking over a program that had gone 3-16 in the season prior to her arrival. She earned Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 2014.

She was then tasked with turning around a program in the Big 12 and successfully built Kansas State into a winner. This past spring, Steinberg led K-State to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003 and finished 15-11 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12, its first top-five finish in the conference in a dozen years.

The Buffs will be a young squad heading into the fall with three freshmen and one transfer on its seven-player roster.
