Colorado Hosts New Mexico in Home Opener

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis program opens home dual competition against the University of New Mexico Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center.

The Buffaloes (1-1) come into this matchup after sweeping Montana State last Friday and dropping a close 4-3 matchup to Air Force on Saturday. This will be Colorado's first home dual under the supervision of head coach Danielle Steinberg.

Colorado is led by a trio of Buffs with a 2-0 singles record from last weekend. Megan Forster, Sara Nayar and Monica Malinen all went undefeated in singles play from the No. 2, No. 3 and No.4 singles positions, respectfully. The rest of the team all went 1-1, including every doubles team in the two matchups.

New Mexico (3-2) began the season with 2-5 losses to both Baylor and TCU on the road. Since then the Lobos have gone 3-0 with wins against Abilene Christian, Cameron and UTSA, all matches at home. Yue Lin Chen leads the lobos with an impressive 15-3 overall record.

The Lobos doubles play also has a strong record led by the duo of Bronte Murgett and Natasha Munday who have a perfect 6-0 record this season. The tandem is 5-0 from the No.3 doubles spot, while Chen is joined by Hsiang-Wen Huang in the No.2 doubles spot that has a 4-1 record in dual competition this season.

Play begins at 11 a.m. in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center which is located west of the Millenium Hotel just off the Boulder Creek path. Following this matchup, Colorado travels to Minnesota this weekend to compete in the Courtside Classic.
