Men Ranked Third, Women Fifth in USTFCCCA Polls

NEW ORLEANS — The University of Colorado cross country teams continued to be ranked in the top five of the USTFCCCA Polls as the men are tied for third and the women are ranked fifth this week.

This is the second straight week the men have been ranked third, while it's the first week the women come in fifth.

The CU men had a solid performance at NCAA Pre-Nationals last Saturday, October 19, as they were the runner-up to No. 2 BYU by just two points (81-83). John Dressel led the way for CU with an eighth-place finish, while Joe Klecker was ninth overall. The Buffaloes put another two in the top 20 as Kashon Harrison placed 11th and Eduardo Herrera came in 17th. Alec Hornecker was the final scorer to finish, placing 38th.

The Buffs recorded 304 points and are tied with Pac-12 foe Stanford. For the sixth straight week, there was no movement in the top two positions of the poll as Northern Arizona remained first (with 10 first-place votes and 329 points) and BYU stayed at second (316 points). Iowa State rounds out the top five with 278 points.

The CU women were third at pre-nationals behind Washington and BYU. Sage Hurta led the team with a third-place individual finish and Tabor Scholl placed 10th. Annie Hill was third for Colorado, finishing 31st, while Rachel McArthur was 38th. Karina Mann rounded out the scoring for the Buffaloes by placing 49th.

The Buffaloes recorded 277 points in this week's poll and moved from third to fifth. Arkansas stayed in the top spot for the second straight week with 330 points and 11 first-place votes, while Stanford moved up two spots to second with 314 points. Washington jumped up five positions to third (306 points) and BYU slid two spots to fourth (300).

In the regional polls, the women are ranked second behind BYU and the men are third after Northern Arizona and BYU.

The postseason starts on Friday, November 1, as the Buffs head to the Pac-12 Championships in Corvallis, Ore.
