NEW ORLEANS — For the first time this season, the University of Colorado cross country teams saw movement in the USTFCCCA polls as both are ranked third.
The women's team slid from first to third, while the men's team moved up from fourth to third.
The CU men won the Joe Piane Invitational last Friday, Oct. 4, defeating Ole Miss 71-107. The Buffs were led by Joe Klecker's third place finish, while John Dressel took 10th. Eduardo Herrera placed 14th and Kashon Harrison took 18th. CU's final scorer was Alex Hornecker, who placed 26th.
The Buffs recorded 297 points to leap-frog Washington, which had been third. The Huskies recorded 293 points in this week's poll, which was good for fourth. There was no movement in the top two positions as Northern Arizona remained first (with 10 first-place votes and 329 points) and BYU stayed at second (299 points).
The CU women placed second at the Joe Piane Invitational to Utah (110-116). Sage Hurta was the top female in the race for the Buffs, finishing 10th overall. Tabor Scholl placed 12th and was followed by Annie Hill (20th), Rachel McArthur (21st) and Karina Mann (53rd).
The Buffaloes recorded 305 points in this week's poll, in addition to three first-place votes. Arkansas moved to the top of the poll (319 points) and was awarded four first-place votes. The BYU Cougars also moved up in the poll to second with one first-place vote and 309 points. New Mexico, like CU, moved down two positions this week. The Lobos are fourth with 285 points and three-first place votes.
In the regional polls the women are ranked third, behind BYU and Utah, and the men are third behind Northern Arizona and BYU.
The Buffaloes are back in action, Oct. 19, at NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
