Nayar Selected to Oracle ITA National Fall Championship
November 01, 2019 | Tennis
BOULDER – The fall season continues to get busier for the University of Colorado women's tennis star sophomore Sara Nayar who was selected to compete in the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships next Wednesday in Newport Beach, Calif.
Â
Nayar will compete with 64 of the top women in the nation in the event that replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, making her the first Buff to compete in the event. It is the only event that has competitors from all five divisions of collegiate tennis competing in the same tournament.
Â
The young Buff earned her selection after finishing as the ITA Regional runner-up last weekend in Las Vegas. She will be one of 11 Pac-12 individuals automatically entered in the tournament with an additional pair from Utah added to the alternate list. UCLA and Cal leads the Pac with three selections while Stanford and USC add a pair.
Â
Nayar has had a stellar fall season to finish her first calendar year after arriving in Boulder in January. After finishing last season ranked in the top-120 player in the nation, Nayar is 5-5 this season in singles competition that includes four matches against top-100 players. She is also 6-3 in doubles matches with Monica Malinen.
Â
The lone Buff will compete in the double-elimination tournament that runs through Sunday, Nov. 10. There is only a single day where the sophomore would play more than one match when the round of 16 and quarterfinals occur on Friday morning.
Â
Colorado will also compete next weekend in the Rebel Invitational in Las Vegas beginning Friday, Nov. 8.
