Buffs Tandem Finish Fall Season Ranked In Top-40

November 14, 2019 | Tennis

BOULDER – Following an impressive showing in a pair of ITA championships this fall, the Colorado Buffaloes tennis duo of Sara Nayar and Monica Malinen finished the fall season ranked 31st in the nation in doubles.

The Buffaloes finished the season with a 6-3 doubles record that included wins against the fourth-ranked team in the nation and 38th. The two began the fall season ranked 53rd in the nation and went on to compete in the ITA All-American Championship quarterfinals as well as making the semifinals as the ITA Mountain Regional Championships.

Nayar and Malinen picked up right where Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Malinen finished last season after earning a top-50 ranking for the second-half of doubles competition. After upsetting a top-five team in the ITA All-American Championships by a score of 8-7 and facing numerous match-points, the tandem handled the 38th-ranked team 8-2. They finished with a close 8-5 loss to the No.7-ranked team.

Colorado will resume the season in January when they begin dual action against Southern Utah in Fresno, Calif., Jan. 17th. The first home match is Jan. 24 against CSU.
