Colorado Defeats South Dakota In Boise

February 23, 2019 | Tennis

BOISE – The University of Colorado women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win against South Dakota here this morning, sweeping the doubles points and taking four of the five competed singles matches.

The Buffaloes (6-5), who were at full strength in doubles play with Annabelle Andrinopoulos in the lineup, started out the doubles matches with a quick 6-3 win in the No.2 doubles match over South Dakota (1-7). Sara Nayar and Megan Forster defeated Nanette Nylund and Emma Tranberg to take the early advantage in the doubles team point. Monica Malinen and Tallulah Farrow closed out a 7-5 win against Natka Kmoskova and Anastasiia Bondarenko in the No.1 doubles match to secure the team point. Andrinopoulos and Ky Ecton were in a 6-6 tie when the doubles point was secured, so the match was unfinished.

After securing the first team point the Buffaloes pulled Andrinopoulos from singles play, giving the Coyotes a point to tie it up 1-1 in team score. With the first three singles matches underway, CU jumped out to make quick work securing the match. Malinen took a dozen-straight games to sweep Kmoskova in the No.2 singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Forster gave up just a single game on her 6-1, 6-0 win in the No.3 singles match against Luana Stanciu, followed by Nayar clinching the dual for Colorado with a 7-5, 6-0 win in the No.1 singles match.

With the match clinched, Ecton found herself in a pro set after tying the No.5 singles match with a 6-2 second set finish. They third set went South Dakota's way with Nylund taking the pro set 10-4 after taking the first set 6-4.

The final match was the No.4 singles match with Farrow defeating Tranberg 6-3 in the first set before closely losing the second 7-6. Like the match before, the third set was shortened to a first-to-10 style with Farrow taking it 10-4.

Colorado returns to action tomorrow against host Boise State University. Action begins tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
