Buffaloes Narrowly Lose to Boise State

BOISE – The University of Colorado women's tennis team narrowly fell to Boise State University, 4-3, here Sunday afternoon.
After losing the team doubles point, the Buffaloes (6-5) evened the dual at a point all before Boise State (3-4) pushed to a 3-1 lead. The Broncos clinched the match at 4-1, but Colorado was able to pick up another two points to finish the dual down a point.
Monica Malinen continued her winning ways with a quick defeat of Vanessa Timm at the No.3 singles match. The junior took the first set 6-1 and followed the second in the same manner to even the team scores at 1-1. Malinen picked up her 10th singles win in duals this season with a 10-2 record.
The other victors for Colorado came after the match was clinched with Tallulah Farrow and Ky Ecton getting wins in the No.5 and No.6 singles matches, respectfully. Farrow defeated Frankie Trella after a close 6-4 opening set and a quick 6-2 second set to pick up the second Colorado point. Ecton had the longest singles match of the day, winning a tightly contested first set by a score of 7-6 with an 8-6 victory in the tiebreaker. Sydnie Binder took the second set by a score of 6-4, then the two played a pro set where Ecton edged Binder 10-7 for the win.
The doubles matches were also closely played with Boise winning the No.1 and No.2 doubles matches. Wilhelmina Palmer and Lilian Poling took down Farrow and Malinen in a 6-4 set, while Vanessa Timm and Frankie Trella picked up the point-clinching win against Sara Nayar and Megan Forster by the same set score. Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Ecton were down 6-5 in the No.3 doubles match before the team point was secured.
The other three singles matches for Colorado didn't go as well with the closest set score at 6-4 in the opening set of the No.2 singles match for Andrinopoulos. The senior fell in the second set by a score of 6-1 to Poling in Andrinopoulos' first singles match in four duals. Palmer secured the first Boise State singles point by defeating Nayar 6-1, 6-2. Wiktoria Nosek clinched the match for the Broncos against Forster in the No.4 singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Colorado does not compete next weekend, taking the weekend off before beginning Pac-12 competition Friday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. against Washington at home.
