Women's Hoops Visits YMCA

The Buffs spent some time helping youth basketball players
BOULDER – A group of basketball players at the YMCA of Boulder Valley got a visit from the Colorado women's basketball team on Wednesday. Members of the Buffaloes spent the evening helping coach girls ages fourth through seventh grade.
The Buffaloes organized drills and tutored the young players, before breaking into teams and scrimmaging at the end of the practice.
"I think this was a unique opportunity especially, for our freshman," sophomore Peanut Tuitele commented. "It is great to get a sense of community and help show that we care about helping younger generations aspire to get to where we are today."
As fun as it was for the youth players, it might have been more fun for the Buffaloes.
"Being able to come out here and help within the community is a great reminder to us that basketball is fun," Tuitele added. "It's a different atmosphere when you get to our level. You just have to remember at the end of the day that you have to do what you love and have fun with it. I think that is something a lot of collegiate athletes forget. We love this sport and it is fun. That is why we are here."
Tuitele's sentiments were echoed by redshirt sophomore Aubrey Knight.
"Honestly, it's really fun. It brings me back to why I got why I started playing basketball and why you fall in love with it. You see these kids and you just see the joy that they have. Even if they don't make a basket or they turn the ball over, they are still enjoying the game. It just kind of reminds you why you are playing this game in the first place."
The Buffs non-conference schedule was announced earlier this week. Colorado opens the regular season on Nov. 10, hosting the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
