BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis program will begin the 2019 fall season this weekend in Texas at the Rice Fall Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
The tournament will feature nearly 80 players from 13 different schools; Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Houston, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas State, USF, UTA and UTSA.
Five Buffs will be making the trip south, led by No. 65-ranked Sara Nayar. She will be joined by Monica Malinen and Tallulah Farrow from last year's squad, along with freshmen Maria Campos and Antonia Balzert. Campos is a Texas native, while this will be Balzert's first tennis action in the states for Colorado.
In addition to the Rice tournament, a pair of Buffaloes will head to Fort Collins to compete at a tournament at CSU. Fort Collins native Ky Ecton will be joined by Ellie Puzak in her first action for CU.
Colorado is in its second season with Head Coach Danielle Steinberg. In her first season she led the Buffs to the most Pac-12 wins in a season and ended the season ranked in the top-75 in the nation.
