Nine Buffs Named To All-Academic Ski Team
April 03, 2020 | Skiing
DENVER—Nine Colorado Ski Team Members were named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team Friday, awarded and announced by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association.
To be honored on the team, a skier must possess a cumulative 3.5 grade point average and have participated at the 2020 NCAA Western Regional, which doubled as the RMISA Championships, held in Bozeman, Mont., in February. Nationally, a total of 292 student-athletes from 27 different schools were named to the team.
Senior Andrew Potyk (Chemical and Biological Engineering) made the team for the fourth time in his career, meaning he has maintained above a 3.5 grade point average his entire career. He's the 13th skier in CU history to be named to the All-Academic team four times.
Senior Sondre Bollum (International Affairs and Political Science) earned mention on the team for the third time in his career. Bollum was only given three years of eligibility by the NCAA so he, too, has maintained a 3.5 grade point average throughout his career at CU.
Sophomores Olivia Gerrard (Marketing & Finance) and Joey Young (Accounting & Finance), junior Quinn Lehmkuhl (Integrative Physiology & Psychology) and senior Teddy Takki (Finance) all made the team for the second time. Takki was only give two years of eligibility so he, Gerrard and Young all have earned the award every season possible.
Making their debut on the team are freshmen Magnus Boee (International Affairs) and Anna-Maria Dietze (Physics) and sophomore Stef Fleckenstein (Communication). Fleckenstein enrolled at CU in the spring of 2019 and was not eligible for the award, so all three skiers earned the award the first time they were able to.
This marks the eighth straight season that at least nine CU skiers have been named to the team. Four of the nine are earning multiple degrees and six of the nine maintain above a 3.7 GPA, with two maintaining above a 3.8 GPA. Six of the nine made up half of the contingent that represented CU at the 2020 NCAA Ski Championships last month in Bozeman, Mont. While the championship was cancelled at its midpoint due to the COVID-19 pandemic, individual race results still count and Boee and Bollum also earned an All-America honor.
