Buffs Set To Open Indoor Season
December 01, 2023 | Track and Field
BOULDER - As the days grow shorter and the cool breeze of fall settles in, the University of Colorado's Track & Field program eagerly prepares for what promises to be a thrilling upcoming season. With high hopes and a talented roster, the Buffaloes are set to make their mark on the track and field circuit.
The team, under the guidance of head coach Mark Wetmore is entering the season with a renewed sense of determination and a focus on building upon the successes of previous years. The athletes have been diligently training during the offseason, honing their skills and fine-tuning their techniques to ensure peak performance when the competition kicks off.
The Buffaloes start the season today at Colorado Mines where they will compete at the two-day Mines Alumni Classic. The meet will be held at Steinhauer Fieldhouse and start at 4:30 p.m. MT and continue Saturday at 9:30 a.m. MT. Today's events include the shot put, long jump and pole vault while the field events will take place tomorrow. The track races are scheduled to start tomorrow at 1 p.m. MT.
Buffs to look out for this weekend on the women's side are Avery McMullen, Allie Routledge and Amanda Opp. McMullen should be one of the favorites in the hurdles and long jump while Routledge looks to take the high jump. Opp hopes to start her junior season off with a victory in the weight throw. On the men's side, Matt Ward has high expectations in the weight throw while Ian Gilmore, Johnny Homsy and Luc Andrada should catch some eyes in the 60m.
Also on Saturday, Colorado is sending Ella Baran, Abbey Glynn and Austin Vancil to Boston University to compete in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Baran and Vancil just finished up cross country season a couple of weeks ago and will both compete in the 5,000m at the meet. Glynn is set to run in the 600m race in Boston as well.
The Boston University meet will start Saturday at 8 a.m. MT with the running events starting 30 minutes before the field events.
