Buffs To Split Weekend In Colorado Springs
December 07, 2023 | Track and Field
BOULDER - Coming off of an exceptional opening weekend at the Mines Alumni Classic, the University of Colorado track and field program will travel to Colorado Springs to compete at both the Air Force Holiday Open and the CRC Pre-Holiday Invite this weekend.Â
The Buffs will send eight men and eight women to compete at the Air Force Cadet Indoor facility, while three men multis will head to the UCCS Mountain Lion Fieldhouse. The competitions will begin this coming Friday and will continue into Saturday.Â
The men's weight throw will kick things off on Friday at 1 p.m. MT as Matt Ward, Isaiah Bouchard, Lars Atkinson, Lucas Williams, and Ames Newman will all represent the Buffs in the event. Ward will look to lead Colorado as he is coming off of a second-place finish in the weight throw at last week's Mines Alumni Classic.Â
Bouchard, Atkinson, Williams, and Newman will also compete in the men's shot alongside Gustavo Alfonso. Aidan Christiansen will represent Colorado in the men's long jump at 2 p.m. MT, while Jackson Meyer will close out the day in the men's high jump just an hour later.
On the track at the Air Force Holiday Open, Kara Lucyk will compete in the 60m and long jump while Jada Green will take part in the 60-meter hurdles. For the field events, Megan and Lauren Whyrick will be joined by Amanda Opp in the shot put. The weight throw will follow with Opp, her cousin Elena Opp along with Isabella Braun and Obiyaa Kyiraka Akua Osafo-Mensah.
Over at UCCS, the trio of Nicholas Bianco, John Swabik and Drake Miller will compete in the heptathlon, starting at 10 a.m. MT with the 60-meter hurdles.
These will be the last two meets before the Buffs host the Potts Invitational in Boulder on Jan. 12-13.
