Buffs Post Four Top-10 Marks

February 11, 2023 | Track and Field

SEATTLE/FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Colorado track and field team posted four marks in the CU top-10 performers list here Saturday with three entries on the men's side and one on the women's in the Husky Classic and Tyson Invitational.

The top mark of the day came from the women's 4x400-meter relay of Grace Jenkins, Emma Pollak, Jaida Drame and Abbey Glynn. The quartet that qualified the NCAA Championships last May came together and posted the second-best mark in CU history of 3:36.60, winning their heat by two seconds. Jenkins led off with a 55.72 split, followed by Pollak running 53.44 to claim the lead. Drame ran 55.28 and shortly surrendered the lead at the final exchange, but Glynn closed in 52.18 seconds to bring the women under 3:37.

The mark moves them to 23rd in the NCAA, about two seconds from the 16th and final qualifying mark.

The men's squad also posted a top-three time, coming within one-hundredth of a second from tying the second-best mark in CU history. Tyler Williams, Ian Gilmore, Garrett Nelson and James Milholen ran 3:08.35, good for 27th in the NCAA. Williams ran 47.16 out of the blocks, followed by Gilmore splitting 46.61 and Nelson splitting 48.32. Milholen closed in 46.27 seconds.

In Washington, Ryan Lindrud led the day with the third-best indoor 800-meter run in CU history. Lindrud ran 1:50.01, becoming the fastest 800-meter runner in the past 25 years for Colorado indoors. He was joined by Ben Greene who won his heat as well in 1:51.18, good for eighth in CU history.

Whitney Valenti also picked up a heat win for Colorado today, running 4:51.28 in the mile.

Isaiah Givens was the final entry in the record book, breaking the 4-minute barrier in the mile in 3:59.57 seconds. Givens had an enormous kick, crossing the 1200-meter mark at around 3:02 and closing in 57 seconds.

The Buffs continue the indoor season next week at the Air Force Collegiate Open next Friday.
