Buffs Ready For First Home Meet Of Season
January 11, 2024 | Track and Field
BOULDER - Colorado's track and field program is hosting the Potts Invitational, its first home meet of the season, at the Indoor Practice Facility (IPF) on Friday and Saturday after a long four-week winter break.
Over 400 athletes from 20 different programs will be in attendance and competing in the meet with some notable programs being Air Force, Colorado State, Northern Colorado, UCCS and Wyoming.Â
Friday's events are scheduled to start at noon with the pole vault and long jump kicking things off. Competition will continue with the triple jump followed by the high jump, weight throw and shot put starting at 2 p.m.
For the men, Matt Ward is a name to look out for in the weight throw as he put together an impressive performance at the Mines Alumni Classic to start the season.Â
On the women's side, throwers Amanda Opp and Lauren Whyrick are expected to have solid showings for the black and gold as well.
"We're coming back from break and so everybody's shaking off a little bit of holiday rust so I want to see them all progress," throwing coach Casey Malone said. "But before break, Matt [Ward] was having some really good practices and Amanda [Opp] was having really good practices so those are two of our top throwers coming in."
The jump events are also expected to be exciting to see with Nicholas Bianco and Troy Colleran coming off great performances at the CRC Pre-Holiday Invite. Avery McMullen looks to continue her amazing season this weekend while Eva Bruce and Allie Routledge will also highlight the women's squad.
On Saturday, the running events are set to begin at 11 a.m. The schedule is tentative and subject to change.
For the running events, Ian Gilmore and John Swabik look to lead the men while Jada Green will join McMullen in leading the women.
Spectators will be charged $8 on Saturday for admission to the meet. Admission is free with a BuffOne Card. Tickets can be purchased prior to the meet here.Â
Live results will be posted here if you are unable to attend the meet in person. Final results will be posted online through www.DirectAthletics.com, www.TFRRS.org and at www.cubuffs.com.
