Track and Field Make Mark at Mines Winter Classic Meet

GOLDEN, Colo. — Despite fielding only a select few athletes at this weekend's Mines Winter Classic, the Colorado Buffaloes showcased their prowess, leaving an impression. Matt Ward stole the spotlight on day two of the event, held Saturday, Jan. 27, in Golden, Co.
Ward secured his second first-place finish of the season in the weight throw, boasting a mark of 19.80m. Lucas Williams delivered a personal best in the shot put, reaching 17.67m, marking his second personal best of the weekend for second place. Isaiah Bouchard (17.35m) and Lars Atkinson (17.21m), finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Ames Newman improved his mark by a meter, recording a personal best of 15.48m to secure the tenth spot.
On the women's side, Amanda Opp claimed second place in the weight throw with a distance of 17.60m, while Bella Braun finished fourth with a mark of 16.82m. In the long jump, Nick Bianco leaped to ninth place with a personal best of 7.16m.
Looking ahead, the Buffs will host the Colorado Invitational, and a portion of the team will travel to Spokane, Wash., for the WSU Combined Events Open & Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3.
