Wahlqvist Wins RMISA Slalom MVP
February 26, 2024 | Skiing
DENVER – Colorado's Filip Wahlqvist was named the MVP for men's slalom by the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the league announced Monday.  Wahlqvist and the Buffaloes ski team are fresh off an RMISA regular season and postseason championships ahead of the NCAA Championships early next month.Â
The MVP honors are given to the skier who accumulates the most NCAA Qualification points across the regular season, which included five races this past season. Â Wahlqvist won two of those races, the only skier in the RMISA to win two regular season races, and despite not finishing the slalom race at the CU Invitational, he finished with the award, accumulating 146 points over the other four races. Â
Wahlqvist also won the RMISA Individual Championship in the slalom by winning that race last week at Big Sky, Montana, during the RMISA Championships.Â
This is the fourth season the award has been split up among disciplines, going from four to eight winners in 2021. Â The Buffs have have had at least one RMISA MVP in each of the last 10 seasons. Â This is the first such honor specifically for men's slalom, as Filip Forejtek won the GS MVP in both 2021 and 2022. Â
Wahlqvist and the Buffaloes await selections for the NCAA Championships, which will be announced Tuesday. Â The Buffs will host the annual championship meet in Steamboat Springs March 6-9. Â
