Tennis Team, Three Players Honored Academically By ITA

BOULDER – The Colorado Tennis team along with three of its players were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week for exemplary performance in the classroom.
Aya El Sayed, Ellen Puzak and Elys Ventura were named ITA Scholar Athletes and the team as a whole earned the organization's All-Academic Team distinction. Â
ITA Scholar Athletes must obtain a 3.5 grade point average for the current academic year. Â The team award is given to any team with a GPA above a 3.2 for the academic year.Â
From Alexandria, Egypt, El Sayed finished her second season with the CU tennis team in 2023-24 picking up 19 singles and 16 doubles wins, almost exclusively at the No. 1 position in both. Â She won nine matches at No. 1 singles including a 7-2 mark outside of league play and teaming with freshman Pia Rebec, the duo won nine dual matches at No. 1 doubles and had an impressive 4-1 mark in Pac-12 play. Â She is majoring in Business Finance and will play her final season of eligibility with the Buffs in 2024-25. Â
A Minneapolis, Minn., native, Puzak graduated from CU with a degree in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Physics. Â She played on the tennis team for five seasons and finished her career playing in 129 combined singles and doubles matches including 41 victories. Â She won 30 doubles matches in her career, including 21 with Betina Tokac, 15 of which came in dual matches. Â She will play her final season of eligibility at Georgetown University.Â
From Auckland, New Zealand, Ventura played two seasons for the Buffaloes after transferring from Missouri, and made her presence felt playing in a combined 122 singles and doubles matches with 65 victories, 33 in doubles and 32 in singles. Â She compiled 17 wins at the No. 2 singles position in her CU career and 22 doubles wins at the No. 2 position, all with Mila Stanojevic. Â She graduated from CU with a Business degree.Â
