Colorado sends seven athletes to Baylor Invite and two to the ITA All-American Championships

BOULDER – In just the second weekend of the fall season, the Colorado Buffaloes tennis team will split with seven athletes going to the Baylor Invite and two going to the ITA All-American Championships.

After the first weekend at the Battle in the Bay Classic Aya El Sayed and Mila Stanojevic will once again travel to a highly competitive tournament, this time in Cary, North Carolina for the ITA All-American Championships.

The duo will compete starting September 21 with the pre-qualifying rounds. They will need to win their first two matches to advance to the qualifying rounds starting on September 23.

Unlike last weekend, the two will not be alone as in doubles El Sayed and Pia Rebec have qualified for the main draw in the doubles bracket. The duo will begin their tournament on September 25.

"We tell our players that we will give them a lot of opportunities to compete against the best there is in the country," Pham commented on the tournament. "The ITA All-American Championships is a good opportunity for them, but it is something they earned. Its not something you can enter; you have to be selected. For Mila [Stanojevic] in singles and Aya [El Sayed] in doubles with Pia [Rebec] as well as singles is a huge deal. It's great exposure for them, but its also great exposure for the program."

For Rebec and the other Buffs, they will travel to Waco, Texas to compete in the Baylor Invite. Competing will be Lera Alexin, Ema Bubalo, Willow Gretsch, Anya Nelson, Rebec, Betina Tokac, and Rixt van der Werff.

"The other group hasn't competed yet and they are really excited to down and compete against someone else that isn't their teammate," Pham said on the group competing at the Baylor Invite. "It' s going to be really good competition. There's a handful of top 20 teams that are sending players down and to play in some different conditions as well. We'll be back at Baylor in the spring for the Big 12 Championships, so getting the lay of the land will be huge."

It will be the first competition of the season for this group, but also the first collegiate matches for Alexin and Van der Werff.
