Colorado Faces Pair of Cats, Hosts Montana State and Charleston

BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team (5-2, 0-0 Big 12) is back in Boulder this weekend to host Montana State (4-1, 0-0 Big Sky) on Nov. 30 at CU Events Center at 1 p.m. MT. The Buffs will then turn around quickly to host College of Charleston (6-1, 0-0 CAA) on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. MT.
 
CU faces Montana State for the sixth time in program history, currently boasting an undefeated 5-0 record against the Bobcats. The CofC Cougars will meet the Buffs for the first time all-time, with this being the second and only other time this season that the Black and Gold will play an opponent for the first time.
 
Last week and earlier this week, the Buffs finished up the Hawaii North Shore Showcase in Laie, Oahu. CU came out of the invitational with a 2-1 record with wins over UT-Arlington (71-60) and VCU (69-58), and a loss to Texas A&M (59-46).

  • CU is led by 10th-year head coach JR Payne, who has led the Buffs to a 169-118 (.589) record as CU's eighth head women's basketball coach. Coach Payne has been extended through the 2028 season and has led the Buffs to three NCAA appearances, two WNIT appearances and one WBIT appearance.
  • In its second year back in the Big 12, Colorado was picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll.
  • The Buffs return three from last year's roster, including one starter, in Sr. F Jade Masogayo, R-So. G Kennedy Sanders and 5th C JoJo Nworie.
  • Colorado welcomes 10 newcomers for the 2025-26 season, five transfers and five freshmen. The five transfers include R-Jr. G Zyanna Walker (Kansas State), R-Jr. G Desiree Wooten (North Texas), Jr. G Claire O'Connor (Gonzaga), R-Jr. G Maeve McErlane (DePaul) and Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat (Rhode Island). The five freshmen include G Erianna Gooden (Fork Smith, Ark./Northside H.S.), C Jade Crook (Albury, Australia/Basketball Australia Center of Excellence/Lake Ginninderra College), G Isa Hämäläinen (Lorentzweiler, Luxembourg/European School of Luxembourg 1), F Logyn Greer (Lansdowne, Pa./Friends' Central School) and F Sophie Zadel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights H.S).
  • R-Jr. G Zyanna Walker is 12th in conference for free throw percentage with 81.0%. She is also 13th in assists per game with 4.3 and sixth for assist-to-turnover ratio with 3.3. Additionally, Walker is second in the Big 12 for steals per game with 2.7. She came away with 10 points and six rebounds against VCU in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase, and she had 14 points and six rebounds versus Texas A&M.
  • Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat leads the Big 12 in rebounding with 9.8 rebounds per game (59 total). She is also 13th for steal per game with 2.2. Dutat had nine rebounds against UTA in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase and 11 versus VCU.
  • Fr. F Logyn Greer is 25th in the Big 12 for scoring with 12.7 points per game. Greer also has the 10th-best field goal percentage with 49.2%. In the Hawaii North Shore Showcase, she had double-digit points twice – once against UT-Arlington (15) and the other against VCU (14). She also had six rebounds against each opponent and four assists against VCU.
  • R-So. G Kennedy Sanders is 12th in the Big 12 for steals per game with 2.2. Sanders had three steals against Texas A&M and five versus UTA.
  • As a team, the Buffs are second in the Big 12 for steals per game (13.33), fourth for the Big 12 free throw percentage with (73.8), fourth for combined opponent rebounds (31.3), sixth for rebounding margin (9.0) and sixth for assist-to-turnover ratio (1.07).

HERE, KITTY KITTY: The Buffs last faced the Bobcats in 1995 in Bozeman, where the Buffs won by 13, 68-55 (Dec. 22). CU is undefeated against the Bobcats all-time, having won by as many as 22 and by no fewer than six.
 
MEEEEOW: The Buffs will meet the Cougars for the first time in program history this Tuesday. College of Charleston is the second of two teams that the Black and Gold will face for the first time. The Buffs are 3-1 against Colonial Athletic Association opponents all-time.
 
#8 CROOK: Fr. C Jade Crook, from Albury, Australia, is one of three international players for the Buffs. Crook is not the only basketball powerhouse in the family. Her dad played basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and played in NBL1 and SEABL. Crook's biggest sports hero is Lauren Jackson because they grew up in the same town and she has played alongside and against her.
 
#10 HÄMÄLÄINEN: Hämäläinen is a freshman guard for the Buffs from Lorentzweiler, Luxembourg. Hämäläinen competed on the Luxembourg Youth National Team from U14-U18. She helped Luxembourg win the silver medal in the 2023 U18 European Championship, which was the first medal for Luxembourg. A fun fact about Hämäläinen is that her favorite artist is Bad Bunny.
