THE BUFFALOES: Colorado is 13-9 overall and tied with TCU and Cincinnati for 10th in the Big 12 Conference standings with a league record of 3-6. The Buffaloes snapped their season-long six-game skid with an 87-61 victory over TCU on Feb. 1.
With the win over the Horned Frogs, Colorado has matched its conference win total from 2024-25 in 11 fewer games (3-17). The Buffaloes also have one more regular-season win than all of last year. Colorado would finish with 14 overall wins after a pair of wins in the Big 12 Championship (14-21).
Colorado ranks among the top 50 teams in the nation in a few categories. The Buffaloes are 23rd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.6 and 28th in turnovers per game at just under 10. Those strong traits were on full display in the win over TCU. Colorado matched a season high with 24 assists while committing only eight turnovers (3.0 a/to). The 24 assists were the most against a conference opponent since the Buffaloes had 25 in a 91-72 win over Stanford on March 2, 2017.
Colorado's 9.8 turnovers allowed per game rank second in the Big 12, behind only No. 8-ranked Houston (8.4 topg). The Buffaloes have recorded single digits in turnovers 10 times this season. Colorado has a long-standing single-game team goal of allowing 11 or fewer turnovers, a mark they've met in 16 of 22 games. In contrast, the 2024-25 team only achieved that feat seven times in 35 games and only once recorded single digits (8 at Kansas, Feb. 24, 2025).
The Buffaloes also sport top 50 national rankings in bench points (30th, 31.0 ppg), free throw shooting (49th, .763) and overall field goal percentage (50th, .480).
SCORING BALANCE: Colorado has had at least four players score in double figures in 16 of 22 games, including the first nine. The Buffaloes have had five games with at least five scoring in double digits.
Colorado had only four games with four players scoring in double figures in 35 contests last year (3-1 record) and none with five. Prior to this season, the NCAA Tournament win over Florida on March 22, 2024 was the last instance of five double-digit scorers.
The Buffaloes have had five different players lead the team in scoring this season and four have had 20-point games. Isaiah Johnson, Sebastian Rancik and Barrington Hargress each scored 20 points against UCF, giving the Buffaloes three 20-point scorers in one game for the first time since Xavier Johnson (27), Josh Scott (21) and Askia Booker (20) vs. Washington on Feb. 9, 2014.
Colorado is averaging 31.0 points per game from its bench accounting for 38 percent of the team's scoring. Colorado's 31 bench points per game leads the Big 12 and ranks 30th in NCAA Division I.
FRESHMAN SPARK: Colorado's Fawaz "Tacko" Ifaola, Jalin Holland and Josiah Sanders each made their first career starts in the TCU game and it couldn't have gone much better as that trio sparked the Buffaloes to their 87-61 win over the Horned Frogs.
The three newcomers to the starting lineup combined for 23 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds while shooting 10 of 18 from the field (.556).
Sanders had 12 points, six assists and hit 5 of 9 from the field, all career highs. He led the Buffaloes in assists for the second time this season. Sanders is averaging 9.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 8 of 15 FG (.533) the last two games. The three games before that he had been held scoreless with three total rebounds.
Ifaola had career highs with six points and six rebounds, hitting all three of his field goal attempts. He entered the game with just two field goals in his nine previous appearances.
Holland had five points, five rebounds and a personal-best four assists.
Adding in Isaiah Johnson, Alon Michaeli and Ian Inman, Colorado freshmen accounted for 43 of the Buffaloes' 87 points against TCU.
Johnson is Colorado's leading scorer at 16.5 points per game, which ranks fourth in the Big 12 and 18th in the nation in scoring by freshmen. He has a team-best six 20-point games, including a game-high 24 points at Iowa State, marking his first of those 20-point efforts that has come on the road.
Johnson leads the Buffaloes in free throws made (117) and attempted (140), 3-pointers made (37) and steals (24) while ranking second in assists (54), 3-point attempts (87) and 3-point percentage (.425).
Johnson is sixth in the nation for free throws made by a freshman and 13th in free throw percentage.
After coming off the bench for the first 17 games of the season, he has started the last five. His 16.1 points per game average in games off the bench leads Power 4 Conference players and is second in NCAA Division I overall, trailing only Northern Kentucky's Donovan Oday (18.4 ppg), with a minimum of 75 percent of a team's game with that status.
Junior Barrington Hargress leads Colorado in assists (99), 3-point percentage (.516) and overall field goals made and attempted (116-217) while ranking second in scoring (13.8 ppg), overall shooting (.546), 3-pointers made (33) and steals (20). He had 20 points and four assists against UCF, hitting 6 of 8 from the field and a perfect 3 of 3 from 3-point range.
Hargress is third in the Big 12 and 14th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.5 and leads all conference players in league games with a 4.4 mark. He has 13 games with no more than one turnover, including the win over TCU where he didn't give up one, while dishing out four assists. Hargress has eight games with at least five assists. Over the last seven contests he has 27 assists against just four turnovers (6.8 a/to).
Additionally on the Big 12 charts, Hargress ranks eighth in field goal percentage and 11th in assists. He is the best field goal shooter in the Big 12, and 18th in the country, from the guard position.
Sophomore Sebastian Rancik is second on the team in rebounding (5.3 rpg), free throws made (92) and attempted (107) and third in scoring (13.2 ppg), assists (44) and 3-point field goals (31). He came off the bench for the first time this season against TCU, and responded nicely with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds, hitting 6 of 8 from the field and 3 of 4 from downtown.
Rancik leads the team and ranks second in the Big 12 in free throw percentage at 86.0 percent.
