2008 OUTLOOK: Krista, like her sister, is accomplished at the 800, mile and cross country in high school and will likely serve varsity duty in the collegiate equivalents of those events.

CROSS COUNTRY: Redshirt. Did not compete.

HIGH SCHOOL: Eckert is a four time state champion, three times in the sprint medley relay and once in the 800 as a sophomore. She was a four-time selection to the all-state cross country and track and field teams, as well as the all-conference teams. Eckert was the Roy Griak champion in 2003 and 04 and the Rim Rock champion in 2005. During the 2006 season, RHS won the Roy Griak meet. In 2004, she earned a 10th-place finish at Nike Team Nationals and was ninth in 2006. Eckert owns the outdoor school record in the 1,600-meter run at 4:53, which was set in 2005, as well as records in the 4x400, 4x800 and the sprint medley relay. Indoors, she owns the school 800-meter record at 2:14.7. She was all-conference and all-state all four years of high school. Eckert earned three letters in tennis at RHS. She played No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles. Eckert was also recruited by Stanford, Arkansas, Oregon, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

ACADEMICS: Eckert intends to major in biology and is interested in medical school. She would like to become a physician or physical therapist.

PERSONAL: Krista Anne Eckert was born on February 4, 1989 in Mankato, Minn. Her parents are Joe and Lisa Eckert. Her father played tennis at St. Thomas (Minn). She has an identical twin, Allison, who will also be running for the Buffaloes. Her older brother Joseph plays tennis at Creighton and her younger brother is in first grade. During past summers, Eckert has worked on a farm and has planted trees. She has met numerous runners including former CU standouts Adam and Kara Goucher, Dathan Ritzenhein and Alan and Shayne Culpepper. Eckert has volunteered at the Sanford Hospital in physical therapy, at the Sioux Falls soup kitchen and at the Sioux Falls Half Marathon. Eckert lists her hobbies as cooking, reading, being outdoors and being with family and friends.
