HIGH SCHOOL: Angell was a member of the Lutheran High School track and field team that won the Missouri State Championship in 2013 and 14. Angell helped the team to those victories as a member of the school’s 4x800-meter relay, which also won state titles both years, as well as in 2011. She was a member of the school’s record setting 4x800 (9:41) and 4x400 (4:04) teams. Angell was named LHS’s track MVP her senior, junior and freshman years. She was a multiple all-state selection in both relays as well as the 800 and 1,600-meter runs. As a junior, Angell placed third in the 800 at state. On the cross country course, she was the team’s MVP as a junior. Angell placed 11th at the state championships her senior year and was 14th as a freshman. She was also named a National Merit Commended Scholar, as well as a Missouri Top 100 Scholar and a Post Dispatch Scholar Athlete as a senior.
HIGH SCHOOL BESTS: 400-meters: 60.51; 800-meters: 2:20; 1,600-meters: 5:21; 4x400: 4:04 4x800-relay: 9:21.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Angell intends to major in biological and chemical engineering and is also interested in business.
PERSONAL: Sophia Elise Angell was born on April 4, 1996 in Columbia, Mo. She is the daughter of Scott and Natalie Angell of Saint Charles, Mo. Her father played football at William Jewell and she has a cousin, Jason Sandfort, who ran cross country and track at Arkansas. She has two younger siblings, Julia and Luke. Angell enjoys hiking, skiing, reading and playing with her dog.
