Alicia Salas
enters her first season with the Colorado coaching staff joining the Buffaloes for the spring semester. During the fall semester, she traveled to China to volunteer in a cancer recovery clinic.
Salas, a 2004 graduate of Notre Dame with Bachelor of Arts degrees in anthropology and preprofessional studies, was a four-year letterwinnner for the Irish. She capped off her final season as the No. 22 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) nationally ranked singles player. A team most valuable player in 2002 and 2004, Salas was also a NCAA Tournament participant in 2003 and 2004, and an All-American Championships participant in 2003.
Off the court, Salas was the national award winner for the 2004 Cissie Leary Sportsmanship, 2004 Midwest Region’s Senior Player of the Year, and winner of the 2004 Byron V. Kanaley Award, the most prestigious award presented to Notre Dame student-athletes. Also in 2004, Salas was a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)/USTA summer travel team.
Salas, 23, formerly of Englewood, Colo. was a four-time Colorado state singles champion at Cherry Creek High School where she graduated in 2000. A four-time state M.V.P. and championship team member, Salas was also undefeated as a junior and senior during her prep career and compiled a four-year record of 78-2.
This past summer she won the 2005 Boulder Open women’s open singles final as the tournament’s top seed. She has also won the Denver City Open and the Colorado State Open.
"I am really excited to have Alicia join the Buffaloes," said Kenneally. "I recruited Alicia and although she was not a Buffalo as a student-athlete, I am really thrilled she has decided to join us. Alicia is a very solid addition to our program bringing a lot of on-court as well as off-court life experiences to our student-athletes."
