Robert Stone enters his third year with the University of Colorado coaching staff serving as the team’s volunteer assistant.

He is certified by the United States Tennis Association (USPTA) as an Elite Professional, and a certified national coach by the Spanish Tennis Federation.

Prior to CU, Stone was the Director of Competitive Tennis at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.  There he spent four-and-a-half years, training approximately 75 players from ages 8-18. He coached several sectionally and nationally ranked juniors, including four players in the USTA Top 100.  Over 80% of the graduates of Stone’s competitive tennis program went on to receive college scholarships.

Stone also spent two years at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla. where he coached four USTA National Champions, and was the head coach of Bollettieri Academy’s ITF girls ages 14-18, 10 of which were ranked in the top 50 in the world including Sara Errani and Nicole Vaidisova. 

In addition to his duties at the tennis academy, Stone was the assistant coach for the daily training of the Chinese National Women’s Team, and was a hitting partner for professional players including Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic, Daniela Hantuchova, Tommy Haas, Xaiver Malisse, Mary Pierce, and others.

Stone also served as the Director of Tennis at Centre Court in Newton, Iowa for two years. There he designed a tennis program for approximately 40 juniors, where he helped mentor several graduates of the program who would later go on to play college tennis, including a pair of Iowa State High School Champions.

He is a 1998 graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree with conferred honors, and a 2009 graduate at the University of Nebraska College of Law (J.D. conferred with honors).

Stone is currently a 2014 MBA Candidate in the University of Colorado - Leeds School of Business.
