BOULDER, Colo. -The University of Colorado women's soccer team beat the University of Denver 3-2 at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in North Boulder Sunday afternoon, earning the victory in the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the soccer field.

Colorado moves to 6-11 (5-5 Big 12) with the win while Denver drops to 14-5.

"It's nice to get a win going in to the Big 12 tournament," Colorado head coach Austin Daniels said. "We played a solid game for 90 minutes."

Colorado dominated the first half of play, registering 15 shots to DU's five, and took a 1-0 lead into halftime on an Allison Gausman goal in the 43rd minute. Keeper Sloane Cox deflected all four of Denver's shots on goal in the half.

Denver rallied in the second half, firing seven shots to Colorado's 13, but several key saves by senior Buff keeper Heidi Burgett --who played the entire second half in her last regular-season game at Colorado --in the game's final minutes sealed a 3-2 Colorado win.

Colorado's two goals in the second half were both registered by freshman Melissa Cartmell, one in the game's 65th minute off an assist from Donna Holyman and another in the 72nd minute off a feed from Andrea Matassa. Denver's goals were tallied by Jen Cole in the 52nd minute and Suzanne Ternes in the 72nd minute.

Next up for Colorado will be a first-round matchup with Texas in the Big 12 Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Nov. 6. The winner of that game will face No. I seed Texas A&M in the tournament's second round Nov. 7. Colorado dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to the Longhorns last weekend in Austin, Texas.

"We felt our last game with Texas was a good, wide open game," Daniels said. "We feel they are a very good team, but we hope we can get the win."
