HAYS, Kan. --Jackie Zeigle ran to a career-best runner-up finish and was the first of five Buffs in the top-10 to lead the Colorado women to the team title at Saturday's Fort Hays State Cross Country Invitational here Saturday, while Austin Baillie was the top finisher (seventh) on the men's team, which did not field a complete team.

Zeigle covered the women's 5k course in 19 minutes 9 seconds, just five seconds off the winning pace of Lindsay Grose of Air Force, which tied the Buffs in the Division I team standings with 32 points. Ashley Wagle (19:18) scored as CU's second runner (fourth overall) and was followed by Alex Forest (19:56) and Raquel Morgan (20:12).

When Morgan crossed the finish, the Buffs were down by four points when CU's fifth runner, Erin Marston, finished 10th in 20:16, five places ahead of Air Force's fifth scorer, Cyrstal Grijalva, to knot the team scores at 32 apiece.

Turning in top-20 finishes that didn't contribute to the team score, MacKenzie Kerrigan (20:39) finished 11th, Katie Kissane (20:41) finished 12th and Jaclyn Baca (20:49), 14th overall.

In the men's race, Baillie also ran to a career-best finish, seventh overall, when he covered the 8k loop in 27:30 while Will Campbell (27:58) finished 12th.

Colorado's varsity had the weekend free from competition and are gearing up for the NCAA Pre-National Invitational next weekend, Oct. 18, in Waterloo, Iowa, site of this year's NCAA Championships. Typically one of the nation's largest races, it will give the Buffs' a measuring stick to see how they stack up against potential Nov. 24 competition.
