KEVER & STRANDEMO TAKE SINGLES/DOUBLES TITLE

COLORADO SPRINGS ? Second semester freshman Lynzee Kever and Kendra Strandemo were crowned champions of their respective flights leading the University of Colorado women's tennis team at the United States Air Force Invitational, Saturday afternoon.
Colorado is one of eight schools participating at the USAFA Invitational along with Air Force, Colorado State, Denver, Georgia Southern, New Mexico, Texas El-Paso and Wyoming.
Kever, ranked No. 67 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), defeated Michelle Heidbrink of New Mexico in three sets taking the decisive final set 7-5. Strandemo cruised to the Flight 2 final without dropping a set in three matches and defeated Nora Quintal of New Mexico, 6-0, 6-1.
Other CU performers playing well in the tournament were freshman Gleisy Torres Torres and sophomore Martina Sedivec. Each won all three of their matches in round robin play with Torres Torres and Sedivec sweeping the competition in straight sets at the Flight 5 and 7, respectively.
Overall, the Buffaloes went 19-8 in singles play during the two days of singles competition and a perfect 9-0 in doubles play. CU claimed flight winners with Kever (Flight 1), Strandemo (Flight 2), Torres Torres (Flight 5), and Sedivec (Flight 7).
In doubles, CU claimed a pair of flight titles with Strandemo and Jessica Vanderdys defeating Heidbrink/Scott of New Mexico, 8-5 at Flight 1; while Kever and Jenny Hanson defeated their opponent, Paganetti/Singh of Colorado State, 8-2 at Flight 2. Both CU tandems won all three of their matches en route to the finals.
Sedivec and Veera Nurmi won the Flight 3 doubles bracket with a pair of victories, in addition to Allison Quinn and Torres Torres winning the doubles Flight 4 bracket.
In doubles, the Buffs earned titles with Strandemo/Vanderdys (Flight 1), Hanson/Vanderdys (Flight 2), Nurmi/Sedivec (Flight 3), and Torres Torres/Quinn (Flight 4). CU also performed well in its freshmen singles class as Nurmi won her first two matches in straight sets, however lost in Saturday's final to New Mexico's Lucy Scott, 7-6(4), 6-1 to finish third in Flight 3.
